KUCHING HIGH REBUILDING COMMITTEE
“The Inauguration Ceremony of Science Block and Classroom Block
cum Fund Raising Dinner for Admin Block”
The Kuching High Rebuilding Project consists of the rebuilding of three buildings namely, the Administration block, Science Block and the Classroom Block .
The Kuching High Rebuilding Committee comprising members of the Kuching Teochew Association, Kuching High School Board of Management, Ex-Highians’ Association and PIBG. Over the past 1 year, its tireless effort has garnered good support from all sectors which include grants from the federal and state government, Kuching Teochew Association, Ex-highians, teachers and parents, as well as corporate and well wishers who render their assistance towards this worthy cause. With the concerted effort from all, two-third of the construction cost (about RM5 million) has been raised during the past one year.
Phase 1 of the project on the construction of the Classroom Block and Science Block which commenced work in August last year, is scheduled for completion and to be handed to the school authority in October this year.
During the earth-breaking ceremony on 6th October last year, a grant of RM250,000 was received from the state government. In addition to that, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education YB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin handed over a RM1.5 million grant to the school and further announced the ringgit to ringgit subsidy grant to help Kuching High Rebuilding Committee on the remaining shortfall of RM2.2 million for Phase 2.
The pledge by DPM on the subsidy grant has further inspired the committee to take a bold step in organising a grand fund raising dinner to raise RM1.2 million for phase 2 for the construction of the Administration Block. At the same time, the dinner will witness the inauguration ceremony of the two new school blocks (phase 1).

晋中重建委员会
《 乐群堂 (教室) 及 亲民楼（科学楼）落成典礼
暨明德楼（行政楼）重建筹款晚宴 》
晋中重建工程, 包括明德楼（行政楼）、亲民楼 (科学楼）及乐群堂 (教室）经由古晋潮州公会、晋中校董会、晋中校友会及晋中家教协会所组成之晋中重建委员会, 马不停蹄地积极进行筹款，而在获得各方面，包括联邦政府、州政府、古晋潮州公会、晋中校友、老师、学生家长、还有爱护教育的社会各界热心人士以及公司机构等纷纷慷慨解囊之下，顺利的在过去一年内，筹得了整个重建工程经费的三分之二(约500万令吉)，其中第一阶段乐群堂及亲民楼(科学楼）的重建工程在2009年8月开始，预定今年10月完成，移交给古晋中学使用。
去年10月6日在古晋中学重建校舍动土礼晋中重建委员获得州政府拨款25万令吉。在动土礼讲话时，副首相兼教育部长丹斯里慕尤丁为古晋中学捎来了犹如一场及时雨的好消息。在了解到晋中的第二阶段工程即行政楼的重建工程经费仍然不敷220万令吉之后, 当场承诺联邦政府将在已拨出的150万令吉之余， 再以1对1的方式作出补助。
在副首相此番谈话激励下，也为配合庆祝第一阶段工程完工，晋中重建委员会决定于今年10月29日（星期五）晚上在古晋婆罗洲会议中心（BORNEO CONVENTION CENTRE KUCHING, BCCK）举办《乐群堂 (教室)及亲民楼（科学楼）落成典礼暨明德楼（行政楼）重建筹款晚宴》，邀请本州首席部长丕显斯里哈志阿都泰益玛目为晚宴主宾。
这项晚宴的筹款指标为120万令吉，古晋潮州公会名誉会长, 也是古晋中学前身民德中学老校友林鸿儒已慷慨允诺赞助晚宴费用之一半。
为顺利推行这项筹款晚宴活动，晋中重建委员会日前成立了一个以杨应俊为首的晚宴筹委会，阵容如下：( 参阅附 表)

林鸿儒先生的话
（古晋廿五日讯）古晋潮州公会名誉会长，也是古晋中学（晋中）前身民德中学老校友林鸿儒先生，今天赞扬晋中重建委员会全体委员一年多来，一直本着自愿、自发、至诚、忠实、不畏艰难和不言放弃的精神，为晋中行政楼、科学楼及教室的重建工程，积极进行筹划和展开筹款的工作。
“如今看到晋中新的教室及科学楼在各方面热烈响应，踊跃捐献给予资助下，很快地在一年多之内就建立起来，我为重建委员会全体委员们所付出的一切辛劳与表现，即感到骄傲，也很感动。”
晋中第一阶段即教室与科学楼的重建工程是在去年8月开始，预定今年10月完成后，移交给古晋中学使用。
林鸿儒与夫人沈丽如也不落人后，慷慨解囊，共合捐了三十万令吉，资助建立晋中图书馆，此图书馆建成之后，将命名为林鸿儒图书馆。
“说起来，我也算是跟晋中也有点渊源。”他回忆说：“上世纪三十年代，也就是在七十多年前，我先后曾在民德学校和民德中学求学，二次大战爆发时中断学业，并在战后出来社会谋生。”
“如今，在经过一甲子的岁月之后，我对於自己在目前的年纪，还有能力为重建晋中尽点棉力，感到很欣慰。”
林鸿儒先生吁请各界爱护及关心晋中在籍与未来学子教育成长的人士，继续给予支持捐助，尤其是离校后散居在国内外各地的晋中校友，更希望他们能本着饮水思源及感恩之心，为培育他们多年的母校作出回馈，协助完成晋中的重建工作，使晋中能给本市的各族子弟，提供一个舒适的求学环境，也为协助国家培养人才与推动教育的发展，贡献一份力量！
Work Progress Report
1. PROJECT BRIEF
The entire rebuilding project consists of rebuilding of three buildings namely, the Science
Block, the Classroom Block ( Phase 1) and the Office & Administration block
( Phase II ).
This Phase I contract is awarded by Teochew Association to Fung Hap Construction through
open tender. This contract comprises demolition existing unsafe building, setting up, supply,
build up and completion of the proposed New 3 storey Science Block and New 4 storey
Classroom Block .
The New 3-storey Science Block is 11.0m wide x 30.0m long with total covered floor
area of 797.61sq.m. This building has 2 open staircases, 6 Laboratory Classrooms and 3 Lab
Assistant Preparation Rooms.
The New 4 storey Classroom Science Block is 11.40m wide x 44.575m long with total
covered floor area of 1,271.05 sq.m. This building has 2 open staircase, 12 classrooms and 4
living skill rooms.
2. CONTRACT DETAILS

3. PROGRESS SUMMARY AS OF APRIL 2010
The construction works for both Science block and Classroom Block have commenced since
14th August 2009 with contract period of 10 months and 15 months respectively.
The progress as at 30 April 2010 :
The construction has entered the 37 weeks of the contract
Percentage of completion for the 3 storey Science Block has reached 93%
Percentage of completion for the 4 storey Classroom Block has reached 56 %,
the overall percentage completion of construction works for phase 1 ( both buildings )
has reached 71 %
The Science block is scheduled for completion and hand over to school in Mid June 2010
with Classroom block scheduled for completion in Mid November 2010
